ZYPREXA / SEROQUEL CLASS ACTION NOTICE

A class action lawsuit has been filed against Eli Lilly, the maker of Zyprexa, for unintended side effects (diabetes) and failure to alert consumers of these risks. This suit has been filed on behalf of families of diabetes victims who took Zyprexa. Seroquel is another similar mental health drug that has similar risks.

Case Background
Zyprexa and Seroquel are popular drugs used to treat psychological problems. While Zyprexa and Seroquel may be effective helping treat these disorders, it may also cause very serious physical side effects. Zyprexa's link with diabetes was first established by on May 3, 2002, by Britain's Medicines Control Agency.

Seroquel's dangers were discovered in August 2003. In response, the FDA ordered AstraZeneca to change Seroquel's label to inform about the risk of diabetes, but the company did not comply with this request.

Zyprexa is Eli Lilly's best selling drug, with nearly $2.5 billion in sales in 2002 and has been prescribed to more than 6 million people in the past five years. The profits from this dangerous product have been enormous. Attorneys representing Zyprexa victims claim that Eli Lilly is responsible because they resisted efforts to advise patients to monitor blood sugar levels causing unnecessary deaths and injury.

Health Risks & Symptoms
Zyprexa and Seroquel tamper with the body's chemical levels and this appears to impact blood sugar levels. 23 patients have reportedly died from Zyprexa induced blood sugar elevation. Diabetes is similar to this where patients have blood sugar regulation problems. Patients with an existing diabetes condition should avoid Zyprexa because it could make their condition worse.

The most common related problems with Zyprexa and Seroquel are:

  • Diabetes mellitus
  •
  • Type 2 diabeties
  •
  • Pancreatitis (acute and chronic pancreatitis)
  •
  • Hyperglycemia
  •
  • Diabetic ketoacidosis ( DKA )
  •
  • Neuroleptic Malignant Syndrome ( NMS )
  •
  • Diabetic coma caused by severe insulin deficiency
  • Do I Qualify for a Class Action Claim?
If you or a member of your family has any of these conditions above and has taken Zyprexa, then you may qualify for a class action claim. Thousands of people have already filed claims.

Because pharmaceutical companies are marketing a dangerous product, they have liability, similar to how Ford had liability for selling a dangerous car like the Pinto. This means that Zyprexa victims and their families have the right to file a claim for compensation for these illnesses.

In America today there are thousands of class actions and billions of dollars in unclaimed monies available for victims. If you have been wronged by a major corporation, you may be entitled to compensation.
